ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — Downtown remains a popular place for car thefts and car break-ins.
KMOX's Kevin Killeen crunched the numbers:
According to the latest numbers through March from St. Louis police, 29 vehicles were stolen downtown, a 262% increase from the same time last year.
Also through March, downtown saw 134 car break-ins — a 35% drop through last March.
The Central West End had 21 vehicle thefts through March, the same as last year. Central West End car break-ins are up 38%, with 63 smashed windows through March.
Citywide, 649 vehicles were stolen through March, a 21% increase over last year. In the same time span, there were 778 car break-ins across the city, which is a 19% drop from last year's March totals.
