ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — Steve Stenger will not be getting a pension from St. Louis County.

The county council voted Tuesday to approve an ordinance preventing any elected official from collecting a county pension if they're convicted of a felony while serving in an official capacity.

Councilman Ernie Trakas explained to KMOX how this affects Stenger prior to his Friday sentencing.

"If you're convicted prior to applying for benefits, then you forfeit those benefits," Trakas said. "And obviously it has to do with public corruption and fraud."

The move comes after Stenger resigned in May before pleading guilty to three counts of honest services mail fraud for orchestrating a pay-to-play scheme.
