CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) — Officers in one of our area's largest police departments may have to strap on body cameras soon.
St. Louis County Executive Sam Page will ask the County Council for about 2.8 million dollars to pay for cameras, and all the related hardware, software and data storage.
"We know that body cameras help us understand complicated events, but they also help everyone involved when they see the cameras in place, and they know the cameras are in place...then it brings out the best behavior in everyone."
Page says this upholds part of the Proposition P campaign. "Body cameras were a part of the original commitment to the voters and we're making good on that promise."
Page says he hasn't brought this up to Council members, so he'll see what they think about it this week. It'll be at least three meetings before any final approval.
Tuesday, Page is also expected to issue an executive order banning reliance on salary history for new county hires. The goal is to create pay equity for women and minority employees.
