CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) — There are two new Democrats on the St. Louis County Council.

One of them is Kelli Dunaway, who defeated Republican Amy Poelker in the county's 2nd district with 60-percent of the vote.

"I think it's really important that the economic driver of the state of Missouri, St. Louis County, have its house in order," Dunaway told KMOX News. "I'm really excited to get in there and help clean this mess up."

Dunaway's district covers the likes of Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, Maryland Heights, Hazelwood, and St. Ann.

Her district also includes Northwest Plaza.

"We need to look at all pieces of the (Northwest Plaza) deal...first of all, is the county getting what it signed up for? If not, then we definitely have grounds to renegotiate. But we also need to look at the way having that building occupied is affecting the economy and the communities in its immediate surroundings, because we don't want to take away something that is providing some economic activity to that community."

She replaces Sam Page, who recently took over as County Executive after Steve Stenger was removed from office.

The other Democrat to win was Rita Heard Days, who won her 1st district race over Republican Sarah Davoli. She captured 84-percent of the vote.

Days will represent residents from University City and Wellston north to Ferguson and Dellwood.
