Ron Swanson is apparently making the jump from the department of parks and rec all the way to big league ballparks.
Acclaimed actor Nick Offerman, who played Swanson on the long-running NBC hit sitcom "Parks and Recreation," has joined Amazon's forthcoming remake of the 1992 hit movie A League Of Their Own, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Offerman, 51, will play a fictional character named Casey "Dove" Porter, a former Cubs pitcher whose career was derailed by injuries. The character seems to be loosely inspired by the movie's cantankerous manager, Jimmy Dugan, famously played by Tom Hanks. The Dugan character was a composite of several baseball stars of the time, including Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx, who managed for one season in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
The drama series will feature one-hour episodes starring Offerman along with former "Broad City" star Abbi Jacobson, also a show creator, as well as Chante Adams, D'Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, and others. The show's creators had the blessing of key figures from the original movie, including late director Penny Marshall and star Geena Davis, the report said.
Production was reportedly under way in Pittsburgh.
