JUPITER, Fla. (KMOX) - I can remember gently pushing open Tony La Russa's office door in San Diego, the day before Game 3 of the 2005 NLDS. The Cardinals manager had his reading glasses on, looking through notes and charts.

Starting pitching stifled the Padres in Games 1 and 2 at Busch Stadium, with Chris Carpenter and Mark Mulder winning the first two contests. With the Cardinals up 2-0 in the series, another victory would end it.
