Fire at Granite City recycling center extinguished overnight

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) - KMOX News received the following statement from Totall Metal Recycling on Friday, August 9th, as an update...

"Totall Metal Recycling resumed normal operations on Wednesday morning, August 7 after a fire on Tuesday afternoon, August 6. The fire occurred in a scrap pile of electronic equipment with no hazardous components. All focus materials had been removed. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished without incident. There were no injuries and no damage. We also have found nothing to indicate any lithium batteries were involved. We thank local fire personnel who responded and extinguished the fire so quickly, and our employees for reacting promptly to the situation on our property."


GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) updated Wednesday morning— A fire engulfed a recylcing center in the Metro East Tuesday afternoon and the smoke could be seen across the St. Louis Metro area.

Flames and smoke started rising from Totall Metal Recycling in Granite City around 4 p.m. and crews from several Metro East fire departments responded to the scene. The flames were reportedly extinguished around 3:30 a.m., Wednesday.
