(KMOX) - The Oakville High School Tiger Band is performing in Normandy, France in honor of the 75th anniversary of D-Day today.

The marching band from south St. Louis County is one of the few U.S. bands to have been invited to play during the ceremonies.

They visited graves of American soldiers killed in WWII at the Brittany Cemetery. Because these soldiers could not return home, OHS students brought a bit of home to them in the form of a small amount of sand that they sprinkled near the graves of Missouri soldiers.

The band performed at the cemetery after visiting the graves and will be around for the remainder of memorial festivities that continue through Saturday. They'll perform at the St. James American Cemetery today, then on again over the next few days at the Normandy American Cemetery and will be part of the 75th Anniversary Parade.
