ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Come 2022, St. Louis could be hosting the inaugural home game for its first Major League Soccer franchise. But one big thing that's still missing is the stadium.

The venue, which would be built in downtown St. Louis just west of Union Station, would have a seating capacity of 22,500, according to a April 2019 release from MLS4TheLou.

Right now, that proposed land between 21st and 22nd Streets and south of Market Street is occupied by ramps coming on and off of Interstate-64. There's been no announcement yet as to when construction on that land could begin.

We're hoping to learn more at the formal announcement of MLS coming to St. Louis happening next Tuesday, Aug. 20 at The Palladium at 11:30 a.m.

According to the website, every seat in the stadium would be within 120 feet of the pitch, giving fans one of the very best views in soccer.

"Our proposed stadium will be more than a sports venue. It will be a reflection of our city's rich history and a look forward into our future."

On Wednesday, KMOX learned MLS will be officially awarding a franchise to St. Louis.
