PHOTOS: Students at Francis Howell Central High School add color to hallways with spirited murals

COTTLEVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) — Graffiti is often looked down upon, especially in the hallways of a school. However, students at Francis Howell Central High School have turned plywood into a canvas, creating colorful murals out of the boarded up front doors of the school where a student drove their car into in April.
Celebrating school spirit, more than 20 artists came together over four days to create the murals, one of which features a portrait of Principal Sonny Arnel saying "It's Always Sonny at FHC."
“It went from a conversation in the hall about the accident and changed it to how cool the mural is and the great work done by the art students,” Senior Haley Heitzman said in a release. “The transformation is amazing and has had a positive impact on the school atmosphere.”
Students initially approached art teaceher Judy Switzer with their idea for the murals before painting. The school district's facilities department plans to repair the structure over the summer.
