ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — You can now play golf at the Sheldon Art Gallery.
It's called "Golf the Galleries," featuring nine holes of golf designed by artists like Justin King.
King created hole number 4 called Kraken's Cove. His hole is an underwater scene with a giant octopus with tentacles snaking up the walls and a column that you have to play around. The pieces including an underwater diver sitting on a bench are all made of cardboard.
King says sometimes he paints the cardboard but chose to leave this exhibit in its natural brown tone.
Gallery director Olivia Lahs Gonzales says the call for entries didn't have a theme but designers were encouraged to create immersive designs. Gonzales hopes people who have never been to Sheldon will come to take in the golf exhibit and of course, play!
One hole was created by a computational design architect at Cannon Design that uses a mechanical elevator to raise the ball. Another hole is a replica of the Fox Theater and yet another was created by the World Chess Hall of Fame.
