ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The plans say it will be more than a trail. It will connect neighborhoods to St. Louis' central core and it's designed to spur economic rebirth.

For now, it's called the Chouteau Greenway, but it won't be for long.

Great Rivers Greenway hopes the public will help brainstorm a meaningful name for the plan to connect Forest Park to the Arch with greenspaces and feature projects.

CEO Susan Trautman says part of the framework plan links in north and south city neighborhoods.

"That ensures that development in areas that have been disinvested in, happens in an appropriate way, involves the neighbors and the residents who live there, and ensures that they stay there in the long run," Trautman says. "In addition to building out the greenway looking at land adjacent to it, inviting opportunities for development."

Trautman says it will take at least a decade to build out at a projected cost of $250-300 million.
