U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (KMOX) — A St. Louis native's quest to see all 418 National Parks in 2019 is in the home stretch and it looks like he's going to make it.
In fact, despite January's government shutdown that forced him to return to some locations, Andy Magee has only 14 more to visit before New Year's Eve. The photos in the slideshow above were all taken along his journey this year.
Magee tells Total Information AM he was able to make up a lot of ground in the northeast, where you can visit several parks in a day.
"A lot of Civil War battlefields, a lot of historic homes and places where presidents lived or famous people were born," Magee says. "Sometimes the park is fairly small and you can actually visit it fairly quickly. You can get a good visit in an hour or two."
As of Monday, Magee is in the Virgin Islands. After that, it's off to Hawaii, Guam and American Samoa. He'll end his quest at the Gateway Arch on New Year's Eve.

Magee wanted to make the trip to "push his physical and mental limits." He is an artist that has completed several art projects such as 3,700 coins he mounted to construct a portrait of Barack Obama and a half-mile of telecommunications wire woven into a cube.
