TOP 10 STORIES OF 2019: Here are the most-clicked stories on KMOX this year

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's time to take look back on 2019 with the new year less than a week away. In St. Louis, there were some controversial stories, acts of random kindness, major soccer news and flooding for months.
We compiled a list of the most-clicked stories on KMOX.com.
One topic you may notice that is missing from this list is anything related to the St. Louis Blues and the Stanley Cup Championship. While no story in particular cracked the top-10, the KMOX.com/Blues page was the most-visited page on KMOX.com.
And now, here's the list of most-clicked stories, starting with No. 10:
10. FOX 2 newscaster, Kevin Steincross, off-air indefinitely
The local TV anchor was accused of using a racial slur on air when mentioning Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this year. He insisted he misspoke and tripped over his words and even apologized on air, but the station removed him.
9. Amoco returns to St. Louis gas station with world's biggest sign
In October, KMOX was the first to report that the famous Amoco sign at the BP gas station on Clayton and Skinker would be returning this year. It's been known as BP since the Amoco banner was phased out following the 1998 merger between the two oil companies. But now BP is reviving the Amoco brand for competitive positioning purposes.
8. Barnes-Jewish St. Peters co-workers purchase car for employee in need
When Patient Care Technician Esther Massey's car broke down, the good people at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital stepped in to help her. The single mother was given $13,000 to get her a safe, reliable and brand new car so she could continue on in nursing school as well as take care of her son. The dealership even took care of the taxes and licensing fees.
7. FOUND: Missing 'homeless millionaire' has been located
KMOX's Kevin Killeen and St. Louis Alderman Joe Vaccaro spent weeks looking for the homeless man. Homeless, despite a bank account of around a million dollars of his family's money. Vaccaro says a few years back he set up a bank account in Schaefer's name "with about a million dollars" of the family's money in it.

St. Louis' new professional football team now has a name and logo, following an August announcement by the XFL. The BattleHawks will take flight in February, but their logo design was really something to see.
5. KMOX EXCLUSIVE: Illinois GOP congressman John Shimkus will not run in 2020
Illinois GOP Rep. John Shimkus announced in August on the Mark Reardon Show that he will not run for reelection in 2020. Shimkus was joined in the KMOX studio by his wife Karen, who says since their three boys are now raised and mostly out of the house, it's time for a change. Shimkus will serve out his current term through January of 2020.
4. St. Louis holds No. 1 spot again for rate of gonorrhea, chlamydia cases
The city of St. Louis was No. 1 again for multiple types of sexually transmitted diseases per capita, according to the annual report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. St. Louis was No. 1 for gonorrhea and chlamydia cases, and fourth for syphilis, compared to other counties and independent cities in the U.S.
3. SOURCE: MLS is officially coming to St. Louis
KMOX's Tom Ackerman was able to confirm with a source that Major League Soccer will be awarding a franchise to St. Louis, in August. In October 2018, a prospective MLS ownership group was announced in St. Louis, led by Carolyn Kindle Betz, of Senior VP of Enterprise Holdings and Jim Kavanaugh, CEO of World Wide Technology. The group is rounded out with Andy Taylor, Executive Chairman of Enterprise Holding and six other female members of the Taylor family.
They will be the first female majority-owned club in the league’s history.

This June was the reunion for St. Louis Cardinals fans and their former first baseman, Albert Pujols. His Los Angeles Angels played a three-game series and it was Pujols' first time back at Busch Stadium since he left after the 2011 World Series. The build-up to his return had everyone's attention.
