The XFL recently announced its return to St. Louis, bringing football back to the region. St. Louis XFL head coach Anthony Becht joined KMOX to talk about the coming season, and what it's like being back in St. Louis.

"It's great to be back. There's a lot of fan enthusiasm," Becht said. "And, you know, clearly one of the best sports towns in the country. It's great to be back in St. Louis."

Becht explained the XFL's comeback, and how it differs from the NFL.

"Well, you know, the NFL is the best in the world, right? These guys are being pulled out of college, you know, and they are the league," he said. "And you know, we're the land of opportunity in the XFL."

The XFL made a quick resurgence in 2020 right before COVID hit. Now, revamped and under the eye of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the league's return is highly anticipated.

Becht said that in recruiting players, they held six showcases over the summer. Over 1,300 players, all with at least some experience, and generally between 24-30 years old, showed up adn showed their talents.

"I mean, a lot of these colleges that were on these lists, I've never heard of them. And I mean, that's how deep we went with some of these players," Becht said. "So those guys got their chance at the tryouts and then the bulk of our rosters will come from the preseason players that get cut the next couple of weeks from the NFL, so you're looking at another 600 players that'll come from there."

Becht said they'll be announcing the new name shortly.
