Mike Jones reflects on game-winning tackle for St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl 34

Twenty-two years have passed since the Rams franchise celebrated a Super Bowl win. And at that time, the franchise called St. Louis home, and its record-setting offense -- remembered as "The Greatest Show on Turf" -- was led by a relatively unknown quarterback named Kurt Warner.

Although it was Warner who rightfully earned Super Bowl 34 MVP honors, the Rams wouldn't have outlasted the Tennessee Titans, 23-16, without help from linebacker Mike Jones. With six seconds left in regulation, on the game's final play, Jones wrapped up and tackled Titans receiver Kevin Dyson just one yard short of St. Louis' goal line, clinching the win. It's now known as "The Tackle."

"The last play of the game, they knew our red zone defense. If you think of basketball, we ran like a 2-3 matchup zone, and I was the center," Jones told The DA Show on Tuesday. "I stayed in the middle and if someone ran through, I'd run through with him. When you watch the play, you'll see Frank Wycheck run a vertical route. It looks like my back is to where Kevin is, but I'm looking at Kevin the whole time. So I see Kevin and I plant, because I see Kevin plant.

"Everyone asks, how'd I see it so fast. I was looking at him the whole time... I plant, run downhill, and hit him. We did tackling every day, and it was wrap and squeeze. I bring my arm around to squeeze... my hand hits him right on top of the knee... It was a close play, but two teams knew what the other team was doing. They out-executed us on the play before, and I was supposed to make the play to keep them out of the end zone. And we won the Super Bowl."
