ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - MLB announced Wednesday the bench coaches for the 2024 All-Star Futures game, with former Mizzou infielder Ian Kinsler to set serve as one of the bench coaches.
Kinsler, along with former Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder will serve as the bench coaches for the All-Star Futures Games, which will take place in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, July 13, just three days before the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
Kinsler, who played as an infielder for Mizzou in 2003, had quite a successful MLB career, playing for the Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres in his 14-year MLB career, making four All-Star appearances and winning two Gold Gloves. Kinsler won the 2018 World Series with the Red Sox.
Kinsler was also part of the Rangers 2010 and 2011 squads, the latter of which lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2011 World Series.
Despite only playing a season with the Tigers, Kinsler was inducted into the Mizzou Hall of Fame in 2012 alongside four other alums, with one of them being former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith.
Since his retirement, Kinsler has transitioned into a front office role, starting out as an advisor to baseball operations with the San Diego Padres. Since 2023, Kinsler has been a part of the Rangers front office, serving as a special assistant to general manager Chris Young.
Kinsler and Fielder will be among the litany of former Rangers players to be coaches at the All-Star Futures Game. MLB previously announced Adrian Beltre and Michael Young will serve as managers for the game, while full coaching staff, who will be highlighted by several other former Rangers according to MLB, will officially be announced next week.
