During the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LV, ESPN announced that long-time reporter Pedro Gomez passed away. Gomez, who had been at the four-letter network since the early 2000s, was only 58 years old.
Perhaps most well-known for his coverage of Barry Bonds, Gomez was viewed incredibly highly around the baseball world. No cause of death was given in the network's announcement.
News of his passing brought on quite a few tributes:
When I was doing SweetSpot blog stuff for ESPN and they had me listed as an expert because I helped out with MLBs weekly power rankings, I was listed below Pedro Gomez, and I thought that was so cool. I felt like I had made it.
