Billikens Head Coach Travis Ford discusses social media drama involving son

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Saint Louis Billikens Head Coach Travis Ford made headlines on Atlantic 10 Twitter over the weekend, and it wasn't even because of anything Ford did on the court.

This college basketball season has no doubt been disappointing season for the Billikens, who are currently sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic 10 conference in Ford's eighth season as the helm.

More criticism has been aimed at Ford this season as the losses start piling up, and it has allegedly riled up one of Ford's family members too much.

On Monday, the Midtown Madness Podcast, a Billikens podcast, posted screenshots alleging that one of Ford's sons, Shane Ford, created burner accounts to defend his father amid criticism of Ford over the past season.

Ford addressed the drama when he talked to Bob Ramsey on the Billikens Basketball Coaches Show Monday night with the discussion starting at 22 minutes into the show.

Ford said he wasn't even aware of the situation until Billikens Public Information Officer Bryan Kunderman told him about it after Monday's practice.

"(Kunderman) quickly explains (the situation) to me as we are walking to my car," said Ford. "Then I look down at my phone and it's been blowing up."

Ford said he and his wife did talk to his son regarding the situation, and says he does feel terrible about what has transpired.

"I told him 'Your heart was probably in the right place, but I talked to (him) about these things before'" said Ford. "I've been in this business for the 28 years now. Someone being negative and talking about me wouldn't be the first time."

Ford says he has had previous conversations with his kids about dealing with hearing about criticism when it comes to Ford.

"We have talked about that as a family on many occasions and it's very easy for me to ignore it. I pay no attention to it," said Ford. "My son feels terrible but he was taking up for his dad. If you don't have kids, you have no idea what that means. But if never been in the shoes that these kids have gone through with their dad in the public eye, it's not always easy obviously, but it goes with the territory."
