Blues GM Armstrong to lead Hockey Canada in 2022 Olympics

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong has been named general manager of Hockey Canada for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Armstrong, the 2019 Stanley Cup champion, is in his 11th season in his role with the Blues and was named the NHL GM of the Year during the 2011-12 season. Although he's served as a member of the hockey management group for Canada in 2010 and 2014, helping the team win two gold medals – this is his first time as general manager of the program.

Internationally, Armstrong's resume includes the 2016 World Cup of Hockey Championship as general manager, gold medals at the IIHF World Championship in 2007 (special assistant) and 2016 (senior advisor), and silver in 2008 (assistant general manager) and 2009 (general manager).

"Under Doug's leadership, as well as that of our entire management group, we're thrilled to task them to lead us into 2022, with the opportunity to oversee our staff and players as they compete for an Olympic gold medal," Tom Renney, CEO of Hockey Canada, said in a statement.

Armstrong will be joined by Associate General Manager Ken Holland, Assistant General Managers Ron Francis, Roberto Luongo, Don Sweeney and Senior Vice-President of National Teams Scott Salmond on the Hockey Canada management team.

While with the Blues, Armstrong has signed, drafted or traded for such players as Ryan O'Reilly, Martin Brodeur, Jordan Binnington, Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden SchwartzBrayden Schenn, Jay Bouwmeester and more.

Prior to arriving in St. Louis, Armstrong spent 16 seasons with the Dallas Stars, where he won the Stanley Cup as an Assistant General Manager in 1999.
