DENVER (KMOX) - The St. Louis Blues are calling for Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri to be suspended for his high hit that knocked defenseman Justin Faulk out of the game Wednesday night.

The "greasy elbow" from Kadri isn't his first offense, as the Blues pointed out after the game. It happened six minutes and 30 seconds into the third period. Kadri cut across Faulk after he took a shot and appeared to connect with the Blues player's head.

Kadri was given a five-minute major penalty and match penalty for an illegal check to the head. Faulk did not return to the ice as the Blues lost 6-3 and are down 0-2 to Colorado in the best-of-seven series.

The NHL announced Kadri has been offered an "in-person hearing via Zoom" for the hit on Faulk:

"The guy can't control himself," Blues forward Brayden Schenn said. "In the playoffs, he's a repeat offender. Bad hits. Greasy hits. He had a guy in a vulnerable position and he picked nothing but the head.

"Hopefully the league takes care of it."

"That's a very dangerous hit," Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly said. "It's gotta be a suspension. He's a repeat offender. It's completely uncalled for. That's awful to see."

Kadri has been suspended five times since 2013, including twice while in the playoffs with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"It's a greasy elbow by Josty there. I understand he's going into the battle, but you gotta know how to control your elbows and not get it up into the D-man's face," said Schenn. "It's a pretty gross elbow."

The Blues host Game 3 on Friday night.
