ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Blues forward with Jordan Kyrou's relationship with now-former Blues head coach Craig Berube has seen a bit of a focus throughout both the hockey world and in St. Louis over the last week.
Kyrou and Berube haven't had the smoothest of relationship between a player and a coach during their time together, with Berube at times publicly asking for more from Kyrou on the ice on more than one occasion.
Their relationship came to a head last week after Kyrou made a blunt comment when asked by The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford about his relationship with Berube, refusing to comment and simply stating 'He's not my coach anymore.'
The comment drew the ire of Blues fans last Thursday with fans booing Kyrou throughout the entire night during the team's win against the Ottawa Senators.
Berube saw those comments and discussed it with ESPN/TSN analyst Ray Ferraro and TSN insider Darren Dreger on their podcast The Ray and Dregs Podcast Wednesday and he told them Kyrou did reach out to him after those comments.
"I got no issue with (his comment)," Berube said on The Ray and Dregs Podcast. "He got caught off guard and didn't know what to say."
Berube think the comment made by Kyrou was due to his head not being in the right place at the time when he said it.
"He's young. A lot of these young guys get asked questions all the time and they are not thinking like they should think," said Berube. "It was tough for him."
Berube though said he was happy for Kyrou when he had a good game on Saturday against the Dallas Stars, ending his goalless drought.
"He preformed well," said Berube. "He'll be fine."
Kyrou gave credit to Berube for helping him in his career immediately after the Thursday game against the Senators.
“Obviously I respect Chief,” said Kyrou. “He’s been my coach for the whole time I’ve been here, right? So I respect everything he’s done here. He’s done a great job. He won a Cup."
