In the final seconds of the second period of the 4-3 Blues loss, Binnington was involved in a scrum behind his net. We'll let you watch what happened next:

The 28-year-old goalie, who recently signed a 6-year, $36 million contract, was awarded a 10-minute game misconduct penalty. As was Avalanche center Nazem Kadri, who was yapping at Binnington before getting a goalie stick swung near his face.

The reaction on Twitter swiftly followed:

There were some sarcastic remarks:

Some people were wildly upset by Binnington:

And some stood up for the 2019 Stanley Cup champion:

Some were reminded of Binnington's antics in February when he was pulled during a game against the San Jose Sharks. He shoved multiple Sharks players on his way to the dressing room:

Binnington said Friday morning that he won't "condone the stick swinging" but didn't regret doing it either.

"I might have taken it a little too far," he told reporters. "I don’t want to condone the stick swinging. I don’t think having any guy sit in the (penalty) box for 10 minutes is the play. I definitely don’t want kids out there swing their sticks. It’s an emotional play, an emotional situation, and emotions were high."

He was then asked if he regrets it?

“No. I don't condone it," he said before pausing, then continuing. "I just think yeah, it doesn't need to happen. I think just getting into the scrum, I didn’t need to do the stuff after, but stuff happens out there and you just learn and you keep moving forward."

Kadri was asked about his part in the altercation after the game.

"I have no idea. I don't know why I got a 10-minute penalty there. I stayed out the scrum. We exchanged some words. I got a stick swung in my face. Then I end up with a 10-minute penalty. I'm not quite sure what it was for," Kadri said. "I started skating towards him but I'm about 50 feet away from the guy. I'm getting misconducts for just talking now. Not quite sure what that's about. What are you going to do?"

These team's won't play each other again until April 26.
