ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Blues shocked the NHL world last week when they signed defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway to offer sheets.

Most of the week there were expectations the Blues would at least get one of them, ultimately, the Blues will get both, with the Edmonton Oilers officially choosing not to match either players offer sheets.

Both Holloway and Broberg received two-year deals, with Holloway cap hit at $2,290,457 and Broberg annual cap hit at $4,580,917.

With the Oilers not choosing to match either, the Blues will send a second-round pick and a third-round pick to the Oilers as compensation.

Both Broberg and Holloway are former first-round draft picks, but saw limited playing time during the regular season for the Oilers, with both players playing a combined 170 NHL games over the last three years.

However, both players were solid contributors during the Oilers run to the Stanley Cup Finals, with Broberg playing in 10 games, while Holloway appeared in all 25 games for the Oilers.

Broberg, a left-handed defenseman joins a Blues defense that already has Ryan Suter, Nick Leddy, Scott Perunovich, and Theo Lindstein on the left side. The Blues also have Torey Krug on the left side of the defense, but there a chance Krug could miss all of next season.

Holloway will likely be in the running for third-line minutes heading into training camp.

For the Oilers, the addition of the two draft picks was very needed as they did not have a pick in the 2025 NHL draft until the sixth round.

The Oilers will also get another pick from the Blues, with both clubs making a trade Tuesday. The Blues sent unsigned 2023 fifth-round draft selection Paul Fischer and a 2028 third-round pick to the Oilers for "future considerations."
