ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The 23rd player in St. Louis Blues history to wear the "C" will be forward Ryan O'Reilly. The team made the official announcement on Wednesday.
Vladimir Tarasenko, Brayden Schenn and Colton Parayko were also named the team's assistant captains for the upcoming season.
O'Reilly, 29, has been the most consistently impressive player for the Blues since his arrival in 2018. He was acquired via a trade with the Buffalo Sabres for Patrik Berglund, Vladimir Sobotka, Tage Thompson and two draft picks. It's more than paid off as he won both the Frank Selke and Conn Smythe Trophies in the Blues Stanely Cup championship season.
Last season, he led the Blues with 61 points (12 goals, 49 assists) in 71 games and ranked first in the NHL in face-offs taken (1,556), winning 56.6 percent.
O'Reilly was recently ranked No. 31 in the NHL Network's ranking of the top 50 players in hockey right now.
There's no word yet on who the assistant captains will be in 2021.
Blues former captain Alex Pietrangelo signed a deal with the Vegas Golden Knights after he became a free agent this offseason.
