ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A recent first-round draft pick is inching closer to his NHL dreams Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the St. Louis Blues have announced that the club has agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with defenseman Theo Lindstein. Lindstein was one of three first-round draft picks made by the Blues in the 2023 NHL Draft, being drafted 29th Overall.
The 19-year-old Swedish defenseman has spent most of the season with Brynas IF in Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan league. Lindstein has appeared in 49 games, posting 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) and a +13 rating.
Lindstein made notables eyes during the 2024 World Junior Championships. Originally not on the team, Lindstein came in as an injury replacement, and took the most opportunity out of it, arguably being not only Sweden's best player, but the most impressive defenseman during the entire tournament, leading all defensemen with six assists and amassing eight points overall during the 2024 World Juniors.
Lindstein's performance earned nomination to the tournament All-Star Team and helped guide Sweden to a silver medal. Along that he earned raved reviews from hockey analysts, including The Athletic's Scott Wheeler.
