ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh gave a shoutout that he wants St. Louis Blues superfan Laila Anderson to hear.
"Laila, if you're listening, I got your letter, I got your band and I want to say 'Thank you' for that," Walsh said on KMOX as a guest on The Charlie Brennan with Amy Marxkors Show.
The former mayor of Boston was at Game 7 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final when St. Louis beat the Bruins. The then 11-year-old became a national star during the Blues championship run as the players treated her like part of the team. She was suffering from a rare immunodeficiency disease called HLH.
"She is a special young person in this city and I want to say, she sent me a beautiful letter to my office in City Hall apologizing for her Blues stealing the Stanley Cup from my Bruins," Walsh says. "So I just want to publicly thank Laila for doing that."
Walsh says when the Blues beat the Bruins for the Cup he was upset, but not that upset because he was happy for Laila. He also sent her a letter after the series was over:
Walsh is in St. Louis today for a series of meetings and roundtables on the Biden Administrations infrastructure and workforce development efforts.
