ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - MLB announced the inaugural All-Spring Breakout Teams and it featured two Cardinals Prospects who shined during the four-day period.
Cardinals top starting pitching prospect Tink Hence(No. 2 overall in Cardinals farm system) and outfielder Joshua Baez (No. 30 in Cardinals farm system) were named to MLB's All-Spring Breakout teams, with Hence named as one of six pitchers on the First Team and Baez named as one of three outfielders to the Second Team.
Both players showed out in the four-day period. Hence started the first of two Cardinals Spring Breakout games over the weekend and while he only appeared in two innings of the Cardinals 3-2 loss to the Marlins Friday afternoon, he dazzled in his 30-pitch outing, allowing only one hit in the two scoreless innings, averaging 95.9 mph on his fastball and getting swings and misses on almost all his pitches.
Baez appeared in both games, but the former second-round draft pick had a memorable moment in the Cardinals second Spring-Breakout game against the Houston Astros Sunday Morning, hitting a towering 455 foot home run in the fifth inning, which was the longest home run measured by Statcast during the four-day period. The ball left Baez's bat a whopping 110.1 mph, nearly five miles per hour harder than any Cardinals player in front of Statcast to this point in 2024.
