The Cardinals are set to announce that Adam Wainwright will return for the 2023 season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Next season will mark Wainwright’s 18th with the team.
The Post-Dispatch reports that with this next season, Wainwright will have a shot at his 200th career win.
Last season, Wainwright’s longtime teammates Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols retired, and there was speculation that Wainwright would retire alongside his teammates. But the Post-Dispatch says he wanted to meet with family and consider some options before making his decision.
More information will be available Wednesday morning after a press conference with the team.
