ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Late Monday night, Yadier Molina released a video on Instagram thanking St. Louis Cardinals fans and telling them: "I'm back"
It was the message that fans have been waiting desperately to hear for months. But there was one thing that confused some fans. There's a trio of aliens that appear in the last three seconds of the video.
It had a few people asking questions on Twitter:
Well, it's actually a pretty neat story.
Back before the 2016 season, a popular topic of conversation among Cardinals fans was Molina's new neck tattoo. There was a large sequence of music notes, surrounded by stars and a small alien head.
Then Molina's brother, and Cardinals Spanish-language broadcaster Bengie Molina, stepped in to explain. He answered a question on Twitter about the tattoo and said there's a softball team in the Molina's home country of Puerto Rico that Yadier plays for. The team is called "Marcianos" which is Spanish for "Martians."
But it's not just your typical weekend beer-league softball team, this team apparently raises money for kids in the country. Which is a perfect modus operandi of the Cardinals catcher and 2018 Roberto Clemente Award winner.
And just to connect the dots between Molina and martians even further, he also includes the word in his Instgram account name: yadier_marcian_molina
And also the fact that the way he plays baseball is just out of this world.
