Bengie Molina: 'This homestand should be a jumping off point for Cardinals'

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals return back to Busch Stadium for a six-game homestand after an away trip the landed a mixed bag.

While the Cardinals were able to win the series against the New York Mets at Citi Field, they were unable to do the same against the Detroit Tigers, with the struggles of the Cardinals evident in the series finale loss against Kenta Maeda and the Cardinals win against the Tigers Tuesday, where former Cardinals Jack Flaherty struck out 14 against his former team.

The offensive struggles of Cardinals have been prevalent to begin 2024, with Cardinals now the dead last in home runs hit with 21.

The Cardinals now have a chance to improve their offensive numbers this weekend, with a six-game homestand that includes a three-game series against the horrendous Chicago White Sox, who are just fresh off getting swept by the Minnesota Twins (again) and currently own the worst record in baseball at 6-22.

Longtime MLB catcher Bengie Molina, who calls Cardinals games alongside Polo Ascencio on the Cardinals Spanish Feed, says this homestand is a chance for the Cardinals to have a jumping off point.

"The pitching has been great, the Cardinals are not doing very good in home runs, batting average," said Molina. "(Goldschmidt) and Arenado only have two home runs and Walker got sent down to Triple-A. I think we're not doing well in that."

The White Sox series is a chance of multiple opportunities for the Cardinals says Molina, from not just figuring out their hitting, but also helping the Cardinals finally get back to .500.

"The way I see it that it should be," said Molina. "You never know in baseball obviously and it's rare and baseball is really tricky and the White Sox are not playing well at all. They are not doing well at all."

Molina cautions that the Cardinals should not underestimate the White Sox as he believes the White Sox still can take two out of three possibly.

"They can come anywhere and take two out of three of you and ruin your weekend," said Molina. "They can do it because they obviously have the talent out there. They are just not playing well."
