ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - If you haven't been glued to the Garage Happy Hour with KMOX's Tom Ackerman every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. you're missing out on conversations with some of St. Louis's biggest icons. Especially if you're a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
The show that began in March of 2020 has featured guests such as Albert Pujols, Tony La Russa, John Mozeliak, Nolan Arenado, Mike Shildt, Dexter Fowler, Mike Shannon, John Rooney, Bob Costas, Joe Buck and more.
Since we're celebrating the start of the 2021 Cardinals season, here's a look at some of the best segments with Cardinals-related guests...
Albert Pujols
"When we hit camp every year, it was about winning. About winning and nothing but that. So we were expecting ourselves to be in the playoffs pretty much every year," Pujols says of the 2004-11 Cardinals teams.
Tony La Russa
"It's a really fragile time now," La Russa says of the current turmoil between the MLB Players Association and league owners. "And I'm hoping that all 30 teams and the powers on both sides just understand that we need to have fans understand that we appreciate who we are and what the games means to us."
John Mozeliak
"Honestly it's been a dream come true to be with one franchise this long and to be a part of a franchise that's so appreciating," Mozeliak says. "Yes, (fans) are passionate, but they truly care about this team and that's what makes this special because there are only a handful of clubs that can actually say that.
Nolan Arenado
"I actually (tried to play catcher) just to raise my draft status," Arenado says. "I never loved it because it hurt and I didn't like how hard it was ... It's amazing how good (Yadier Molina) is still at an elite level. Being around him everyday I've been absolutely impressed by him."
Ozzie Smith, John Costello and Dave LaPoint
This chat came a few days after the Cardinals had officially acquired for Arenado and these guys were just as excited as the rest of Cardinals nation about the deal.
