ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Cardinals have been long expected to announce their City Connect Uniforms at some point in 2024, being one of nine expected to reveal theirs this season. Now we know the date.
Thursday afternoon, the Cardinals announced that Monday, May 20 will be the day the club reveals the uniforms and the players will officially wear the uniforms on Saturday, May 25 when the Cardinals play the Cubs at Busch Stadium.
The Cardinals are one of nine teams who will reveal their City Connect Uniforms joining them are Guardians, Tigers, Dodgers, Twins, Mets, Phillies, Rays and Blue Jays. The Phillies have been the first of the nine to reveal their City Connect Uniforms.
The Cardinals are expected to wear a City Connect jersey that has red as a dominant color and a little of blue that would resemble the same shade the Cardinals wear with their road hats.
When St. Louis Post Dispatch Cardinals Beta Writer Derrick Goold joined KMOX back in February, he noted the Cardinals have already subtlety hinted what the uniforms could look like.
"(The Cardinals) have been workshopping or focus grouping whatever you want to call it 'The Lou'," said Goold at the time. "Nike has obviously put it on T-shirts, and it's even on the banner on Cardinals website mainpage. So you can kind of see indications of what the City Connect will look like."
The City Connect did however cause a casualty to the Cardinals uniform set, with the team needing to scrap the Spring Training Red Jerseys the team wore from 2014-2023, due to Nike's '4+1 rule' where the team can only have four jerseys, along with the City Connect Uniforms.
Multiple teams have had to scrap a uniform over the past few years due to Nike's rule. The Texas Rangers retired their All-Red Alternate last season, but still keeping the red caps, and the Seattle Mariners scrapped their traditional dark gray away uniforms and instead wore their Navy Blue tops for away games.
The team wore their home and away uniforms for Spring Training this year.
