ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals are seeking permission from City Hall to allow more fans in the stadium.
Under current COVID-19 restrictions, only 30% capacity is allowed. Cards president Bill DeWitt III wants that bumped up to 60% by late May or early June, and eventually unrestricted seating.
The decision would rest with the city's health director. DeWitt notes that other ball clubs around the country are already at full capacity, like Texas, Georgia and Arizona, while the Cardinals are in the "middle of the pack," and some others have fewer fans allowed in.
DeWitt says the Cardinals would be willing to set aside a special section for those fans who want to remain six feet apart – even outdoors.
DeWitt says the expanded capacity is "critical" to the team's business model, but also to the re-opening of downtown St. Louis.
