ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - MLB has announced Friday Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley was named the National League Reliever of the Month for March/April.

After a tough 2023 season that saw Helsley miss half of 2023 due to a forearm strain and only making 33 appearances, Helsley has returned to form in 2024, finishing a NL and league-leading 16 appearances during the months of March and April posting a spectacular 1.69 ERA and MLB-leading 10 saves so far this season, tied at the top with San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez.

Helsley has posted dazzling numbers not only on the back of the baseball card, but also analytically, with Helsley posting analytical numbers that are at least in the Top 2% of the league in stats like expected batting average, walk percentage, expected ERA, and many more.

The Cardinals decent start has hinged from an improvement from both the starting and bullpen pitching. With Helsley in good form along with others like JoJo Romero, Andrew Kittridge and Ryan Fernandez, the Cardinals 2024 bullpen appear to have something special going on.
