It all has to do with the current No. 3 hitter in the lineup and one of the hottest hitters in baseball, Tyler O'Neill.

Only the morning of July 21, 2017, the Cardinals were 4.5 games back in the NL Central and on their way to missing the playoffs for a second consecutive year. The team announced the trade of pitcher Marco Gonzalez for outfield prospect Tyler O'Neill of the Seattle Mariners.

This tweet had more than 1,000 replies – overwhelmingly negative about the trade. The general consensus was that the team didn't need more young outfielders, some said he was just going to be "trade bait" and others called for heads to roll among the Cardinals front office and clubhouse.

Gonzalez was among the team's highly regarded pitching prospects and expected to be a future staple of the big league rotation. He was 4-2 with a career 5.53 ERA with St. Louis. O'Neill, only 22-years-old at the time, was also a touted talent with Seattle for his raw power and athleticism – he was the No. 2 overall prospect for Seattle at the time.

But recently, some are checking back on their comments and eating their words with new replies to those old tweets:

O'Neill has been leading this franchise record winning streak for the Cardinals, as he was named the NL Player of the Week, has hit nine home runs, slugged .718 and batted third in the lineup between Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado since early September.

Some Cardinals fans are even replying to their own tweets and owing up to the mistake:

And here's something you rarely see on Cardinals Twitter, genuine props to president of baseball operations John Mozeliak. The man who's been part of 14 consecutive winning seasons, won the 2011 World Series and made trades to acquire the likes of Matt Holliday, Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado.
