ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals have six finalists up for a Rawlings Gold Glove Award for their defensive performance this season.

They are: catcher Yadier Molina, first baseman Paul Goldschimdt, second baseman Tommy Edman, third baseman Nolan Arenado, left fielder Tyler O'Neill and center fielder Harrison Bader.
Molina is going for his 10th award – which would tie him with Johnny Bench for the second-most of all-time. The Cardinals catcher called it an "injustice" last year when he wasn't among the three finalists.
Goldschimdt has three Gold Gloves (2013, 2015 and 2017). He was also named the winner of the 2021 Fielding Bible Award at first base. It's very similar to the Gold Glove, but doesn't give separate awards to each NL and AL player. Goldy was tied for the most Defensive Runs Saved at first base in all of baseball this season.
Edman is looking for his first Gold Glove Award. If he wins, it would be three years in a row for a Cards 2B to win, following back-to-back wins for Kolten Wong.
Arenado has won the Gold Glove every single year since 2013. His eight awards is tied with Scott Rolen for the third-most Gold Gloves by a 3B in Major League history, trailing only Brooks Robinson (16) and Mike Schmidt (10). It's the second-longest streak to begin a career in MLB history, behind Ichiro Suzuki’s streak of 10.
O'Neill is in search of back-to-back awards at LF. Due to the pandemic-shortened season, the winners were based solely on the SABR Defensive Index™ (SDI). In past years, MLB managers and up to six coaches on each team's staff also get to vote and the sabermetric component comprises of about 25% of the overall selection total.
Bader is also looking for his first career Gold Glove. He was vocal at the beginning of the season about his personal goal was to win the award in CF this season.
