ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals have their "fingers crossed" that flame-throwing pitcher Jordan Hicks will be able to pitch again this summer. The reliever who missed the 2019 season due to Tommy John surgery was placed on the injured list with elbow inflammation on Tuesday.
St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt called it a "pause" for the 24-year-old pitcher.
President of baseball operations John Mozeliak says the team is getting a second opinion before making and decisions on Hicks, but doesn't believe surgery is on the table at this point. Some of the treatment options could include a stemcell injection, Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection or just rest – all would require a minimum of at least four weeks recovery, Mozliaks says.
Here are the full comments from Mozeliak on Hicks:
Hicks has a 5.40 ERA in 10 innings this season. He's struck out 10 and walked 10.
