ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - After being pulled in the third inning due to tightness in his should, St. Louis Cardinals young ace Jack Flaherty is going back on the Injured List.

Manager Mike Shildt broke the news on Wednesday afternoon, after Flaherty threw 46 pitches and took his second loss of the season allowing four runs to the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night. It was just his second start since returning from a two-and-a-half-month stay on the IL.

He aired his frustrations after the game.

“You want to tough everything out and give everything you have, especially for these guys and the situation we’re in,” Flaherty said. “I’m just pissed. I’m just pissed. Mentally, I’m just pissed. Physically, it’s fine. It’s more of a throwing thing than anything. I’m just, I’m pissed.”

Flaherty was placed on the 10-day IL. Shildt said "imaging was negative, so that's positive," after Flaherty's shoulder was evaluated.

The Cardinals host the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. They're 4.5 games away from the second Wild Card spot, currently held by the Cincinnati Reds.
