ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Following the trend that originally brought 2020 MLB Postseason sensation Randy Arozarena to the St. Louis Cardinals, the team has announced the official signing of teenage prospect Luis Mario Pino to join its 2021-22 class of international signees.
Pino, 17, has reportedly signed for $767,000 and released a fun little hype video to announce he was joining the Cardinals organization last month:
Here's video from a workout in October, when he reportedly hit 12 home runs on 30 pitches in a live batting practice session:
Pino has attracted interest from the Rays, Cubs, White Sox, Giants, Red Sox and others, according to reports. He defected from Cuba last year and has played for the Cuban Junior National Team.
At 6-foot, 180 pounds, Pino boasts "more power than some scouts expected" and projects as a center fielder or right fielder, per ESPN analyst Kyle McDaniel.
