ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - On Oct. 14, 1985, Osborne Earl Smith pulled off one of the feats that assured his nickname "The Wizard" – because of his magic and mystical performances in every ballpark he stepped foot in – was meant to be. It was on that day that he hit a walk-off home run for the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of the 1985 National League Championship Series.
It came just after the TV broadcast noted that Smith had never hit a home run in 2,967 at bats as a lefty.
On the 36-year anniversary of his feat, Ozzie Smith send a tweet with a highlight of the famous call from KMOX's Jack Buck: "Go crazy folks."
And in celebration of the day, we have a treat for Cardinals fans with the full audio from the 9th inning of that game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Enjoy:
