ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced Monday reliever Giovanny Gallegos has been placed on the 15-day Injured List with a right shoulder impairment.
As a result, the Cardinals have called up reliever Chris Roycroft from Triple-A Memphis. As a corresponding move to make room for Roycroft on the 40-man roster, the Cardinals have transferred Utility player Tommy Edman to the 60-day Injured List.
Gallegos' IL stint comes a day after another rough outing out of the bullpen, in which he was charged for three earned runs Sunday in the Cardinals 5-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox. It marked the second consecutive outing Gallegos allowed more than three earned runs without allowing an out while he has not pitched a full inning since April 12th.
Overall, Gallegos has appeared in 13 games, pitched nine innings, striking out 13 to walking seven, with an ERA of 12.
Roycroft, 27, was signed by the Cardinals in June 2022. In 11 games for the Memphis Redbirds out of the bullpen, Roycroft has a 1.38 ERA, striking out nine and walking six in 13 innings for the Redbirds this season.
