ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Jordan Walker hit a home run off the first pitch, in the first at-bat of his first professional baseball game and he hasn't slowed down. The St. Louis Cardinals 2020 first-round draft pick was named to the Minor League team of the week at third base.

The No. 6 prospect in the Cardinals organization currently plays for the Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals. The 18-year-old has had no problem making the leap from high school baseball in Georgia to the minors.

In the last week, Walker is slashing video-game numbers at .450/.542/.800. He had 6 RBI in just five games with a home run, two doubles and a triple. And maybe most impressive is that he has walked (11) more times than he's struck out (9) through his first 10 games this season.

He's hitting .382 this season with a 1.229 OPS. But even his outs are impressive. Last week, he hit a ball with an exit velocity of 116.3 mph, which ended up as just a groundout. But at that time, only 12 MLB players had hit a ball that hard all season. Later in the same game he hit a RBI double with an exit velo of 109.4 mph.

Walker was drafted No. 21 overall by St. Louis last year and is projected to progress into a big-time power hitter.
