Cardinals release RP Ryan Tepara after only 9 days in the organization

ST. LOUIS, Mo.- Ryan Tepara's time with the St. Louis Cardinals has come to a short end, as he was quietly released by the team Wednesday after spending only nine days in the organization.

Tepara's release was listed on MLB's transaction tracker on MLB.com Wednesday.

Tepara was signed by the Cardinals on July 17th after a very short stint in the Texas Rangers Triple-A affiliate Round Rock.

Tepara has historically been a quality MLB-caliber reliever, throughout his career, posting a 3.62 ERA in 372 appearances. Tepara most memorably, accidently received an MVP vote from the late-great St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Rick "The Commissioner" Hummel in 2020, after he accidently clicked on Tepara's name instead of then-Washington Nationals shortshop Trea Turner.

However, Tepara's 2023 season has been nothing short of a disaster, posting a 7.59 ERA in 10.2 innings this season. Tepara was released by the Los Angeles on May 19 and did not find any interest in him until he signed to pitch with the Rangers Triple-A affiliate in June, where he would spend a month with until his request for a release on July 14th.

Tepara only made two appearances for the Cardinals, pitching two innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs, including one off a home run, hitting a batter and walking another one, and only striking out one batter.

Tepara was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on July 20th, just three days after signing with the team, as a corresponding move for the return of left fielder Tyler O'Neill.

Tepara is now free and eligible to sign with any other Major League team.
