ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Arbitration decisions have been reportedly reached for two Cardinals players.
The Cardinals entered Spring Training with three arbitration cases in pitcher Andre Pallante, outfielder Lars Nootbaar and utility player Brendan Donovan. On Wednesday, decisions were reached for Nootbaar and Donovan.
On Wednesday, according to Cardinals beat writer John Denton and MLB.com Insider Mark Feinsand, Donovan lost his arbitration hearing against the Cardinals, while Nootbaar won his hearing.
Nootbaar, 27, will make $2.95 million in his first year of arbitration, while Donovan, 28, will make $2.85 million in his first year of arbitration.
The Cardinals filed for $2.45 million against Nootbaar while Donovan had filed for $3.3 million.
Last season, Nootbaar appeared in 109 games last year, posting a solid slash line of .244/.342/.417 with 12 home runs, 45 runs batted in (RBIs) an OPS of .745. Nootbaar's OPS+ was 111, which is 11 percent above the league average.
Donovan appeared in 153 games, posting a slash line of .278/.342/.417 with a career-high 14 home runs and career-high 73 RBIs. However, Donovan OPS+ of 112 was the lowest of his short career. Last season, injuries led to Donovan spending most of his time in the corner outfield, appearing in 105 games in left field.
Pallante has the third case involving the Cardinals and asked for $2.1 million instead of the team’s $1.925 million during a hearing Wednesday before Walt De Treux, Paul Radvany and Brian Keller. A decision is expected Thursday.
