ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals have arguably had one of the best uniforms sets in all of professional sports, with the iconic birds on the bat showing out on the chest every Cardinals baseball game.

The franchise will soon add another uniform to that collection when they announce their anticipated City Connect Uniforms sometime in 2024, with the odds being the uniforms are red.

However, in anticipation for the release of their uniforms later on this year, one uniform that has been a fixture in the club for the last decade will be scrapped and retired.

According to Paul Lukas of Uni-Watch, the Cardinals will scrap the red uniforms the team has worn during Spring Training for the last decade, with Cardinals President Bill Dewitt III confirming to Lukas of the move.

The Cardinals red uniform has been in the team's closet since 2014, with the jerseys being worn primarily during Spring Training games. According to Lukas, the team will simply wear their traditional home and away jerseys during Spring Training Games.

The scrap has to do with Nike's 4+1 rule when it comes to uniforms where the team can only have four jerseys, along with the City Connect Uniforms.

Since Nov. 2018, the team has had five uniforms - the traditional home white and road gray uniforms, the alternate cream uniforms worn on Saturday games at Busch, the Powder Blue alternate worn during Saturday away games, and the Spring Training Jerseys.

Multiple teams have had to scrap a uniform over the past few years due to Nike's rule. The Texas Rangers retired their All-Red Alternate last season, but still keeping the red caps, and the Seattle Mariners scrapped their traditional dark gray away uniforms and instead wore their Navy Blue tops for away games.
