MEMPHIS (KMOX) - One of the wildest games of the year for a St. Louis Cardinals' minor league team ended in a pretty unorthodox fashion.

A huge comeback win by the Memphis Redbirds on Thursday night against the Nashville Sounds featured 31 combined hits, 11 combined pitchers and took 10 innings to complete. The game lasted four hours and 16 minutes.

The final seconds were made possible by relief pitcher Brandon Dickson, who was asked to pick up a bat with the base loaded and Memphis trailing by one:

It was his first hit in only his second at bat of the year. The 36-year-old was signed as a free agent on June 14. He's also fresh off winning a silver medal with Team USA in the Olympics last month.

The other start of last night's game was the Cardinals top position player prospect, Nolan Gorman. The thirdbase and one of the top prospects in all of baseball was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, with four RBI in the victory.

Dickson made his MLB debut with the Cardinals in 2011, but has pitched in only 14.2 big league innings. He's played for nearly a decade in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league.
