(KMOX) - The Los Angeles Dodgers' payroll is so high, two pitchers who are currently unavailable make almost as much as the entire Tampa Bay Rays’ roster combined. No wonder they're the betting favorites to win this year's World Series.

The St. Louis Cardinals hope show that you can't buy championships, as they face off in Wednesday's Wild Card game.

Pitcher Trevor Bauer, the Dodgers’ highest-paid player at $38 million, has been on paid administrative leave since July 2 under MLB’s joint domestic violence and sexual assault policy. Bauer, through his representatives, has denied any wrongdoing. Veteran Clayton Kershaw, third-highest salary on the team, at $31 million, went on the injured list last weekend with left forearm discomfort.

The Rays' payroll is $76.6 million this year, just $7.6 million more than Bauer and Kershaw. The Dodgers' total payroll is $260.9 million

St. Louis is no bottom feeder, with a payroll listed as 10th in all of baseball this year, at $167.6 million, according to numbers from MLB.

Some of the other highest-paid Dodgers include: David Price ($32 million), Mookie Betts ($22.5 million), Kenley Jansen ($20 million), A.J. Pollock ($18 million) and Cody Bellinger ($16 million).

For St. Louis, leading the way are Nolan Arenado ($35 million), Paul Goldschmidt ($26 million), Matt Carpenter ($18.5 million), Miles Mikolas ($16.7 million), Andrew Miller ($12 million) and Carlos Martinez ($11.7 million).

As for other postseason teams this year, the New York Yankees are a $203.5 million, Houston Astros at $188.4 million, Boston Red Sox at $187 million, San Francisco Giants at $165.4 million, Atlanta at $149.4 million, Chicago White Sox at $141.5 million and Milwaukee Brewers at $105.2 million.

The true final payroll figures won't come out until December, as they will include earned bonuses.
