ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals wrapped up their first homestand of the season this week, winning a series against the Marlins and losing a tightly contested series to the Philadelphia Phillies and now head to Arizona to take the reigning National League Champions in the Arizona Diamondbacks.
For Cardinals dazzling centerfielder Victor Scott II, he will have a chance to shave off and forget a rough performance in rain-induced conditions two days earlier Wednesday in the Cardinals tight 4-3 loss to the Phillies, where among how lowlights included two dropped catches and a baserunning error to begin the eighth inning.
Voice of the Cardinals John Rooney joined KMOX's Total Information A.M. Friday and he was intrigued to see how Scott II is going to react to the tough outing he had earlier in the week, especially with Lars Nootbaar rejoining the team officially Thursday.
"I'm really interested to see how the young center fielder can react after a rough day at the big league level," said Rooney. "I think he'll be fine as Oliver Marmol told (Scott) after an error and baserunning mistake 'You have to learn from those'"
Rooney says he doesn't blame Scott for the defensive mistakes as playing centerfield is difficult, and thinks that the baserunning mistake made by Scott probably won't happen again.
"The really good ones may only happen once, but it won't happen again," said Rooney. "I don't think we'll see Victor Scott II do that where he takes the step towards second. You can turn to your left, but once you take a step to the next base and the Phillies realized that and got him out. I think we got a real good one in Victor Scott II."
