ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals made moves over the last couple of days, signing Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson to near-similar one-year deals with 2025 club options.
While many fans were disappointed that two starters chose to go after were two that had their fair share of struggles last year, one expert believes that the two moves are settings the Cardinals up to do more this offseason.
ESPN baseball writer Jesse Rogers joined Chris Rongey and Amy Marxkors on 'The Chris and Amy Show' (at the 20 minute mark) to discuss the Cardinals offseason.
Rogers believes that the Cardinals signing Lynn and Gibson before Thanksgiving sets them up to a lot this offseason, especially with the Winter Meetings are coming in two weeks.
"I think the idea of them getting two guys before Thanksgiving is the sign they are ready to do a lot," said Rogers. "If they are just going after one guy, they play it out, go into the Winter Meetings. But when you need multiple guys, you got to go a couple in your back pocket."
Rogers said who the Cardinals could go after next he doesn't know. Rogers explained that there was very little chatter on Lynn and Gibson.
However, while Rogers doesn't know who the team could go after, but he feels like two pitchers seem like potential fits.
"I think (White Sox ace) Dylan Cease could be in play, he's a popular name in trade scenarios....he would be a good fit. He fits the profile there," said Rogers. "(Blake) Snell does as well in a sense. I think Snell should be in a little smaller market, per se. I think he do well, but I don't know if (the Cardinals) are going to pay the cost."
In the interview, Rogers also discuss the Ohtani Sweepstakes, along with Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shota Imanaga and Paul DeJong signing with the White Sox.
